Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) comes from Brazil, never saw that coming did you, haha. Carols and Helios Gracie developed BJJ in the 1920's. It is a martial art and combat sport focusing on ground fighting with submissions (joint manipulations and choke holds). It prides itself on being particularly effective against opponents of a larger size than yourself. There is no striking (punching, kicking etc).
We work through a yearly curriculum with two gradings a year, moving from white belt, through blue, purple and brown to black belt and then on to higher levels of black belt.
